The Ellsworth Board of Appeals seeks an engaged, committed and community minded individual to fill the associate member position. This is a volunteer position. Prospective candidates must be Ellsworth Residents only. The Board meets monthly in the Council Chambers on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30pm, on an as needed basis.
The Board of Appeals has the following powers and duties:
- To interpret provisions of the ordinance which are called into question in any matter before it;
- To approve the issuance of a variance subject to conditions, where those conditions are directly related to the present or future use or division of the property;
- To take and hear testimony, to swear witnesses and compel the presence of witnesses by process; and
- To establish such procedures for hearings before it, as are not inconsistent with the procedures set forth in this ordinance and state law
The majority of hearings the Appeals Board will render decisions upon are variance requests, administrative reviews and tax abatement reviews.
The current associate member position’s term expires June 30, 2019 with the possibility for reappointment for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024.
