ELLSWORTH — The former Green Tea restaurant at Maine Coast Mall reopened for business as Shinbashi on Tuesday at the corner of Washington and High streets.

Owners Ken Wu and his wife, Catherine Chen, were greeted by returning customers during a soft opening Monday.

One woman hugged Chen and said, “We were just talking about how much we missed Green Tea.”

Another customer walked in and double checked before being seated, saying, “Is this Green Tea?”

Chen and Wu, who hail from Fujian, China, also own the busy Green Tea restaurant in Bangor.

Like the Bangor restaurant, Shinbashi serves Asian cuisine. The offerings include Chinese and Japanese dishes, as well as sushi. A few Thai dishes are also served.

In addition to the sushi, Shinbashi has special cooked rolls, such as the Maine shrimp roll, which has spicy smoked Maine shrimp with crab, cheese and avocado or the Red Lobster Roll, which is spicy lobster and avocado with tuna.

There is also Pad Thai, tempura, fried rice and dishes you would expect to find at a Chinese restaurant such as General Tso’s chicken, sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. Appetizers include steamed or fried dumplings, grilled mussels with wasabi sauce and Yellowtail Jalapeno, which is yellowtail sashimi with cilantro in yuzu sauce or salt and pepper smelt fish.
