The Maine State Federation of Firefighters has been holding an annual convention for the last 49 years. Bangor and Brewer fire departments co-hosted the first convention in 1964. Since then the convention has traveled around the state, North, South, East, and West, many years returning to a city or town for a repeat performance. This year will be the 50th convention. The Ellsworth Fire Department and Senator Hale Hose Company are proud to be the hosts of this historic occasion.
Tickets to Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood - Two man Group, Motor Booty Affair-Classical Night Fever, and the Awards Banquet are available at the Ellsworth Fire Station Starting August 1, 2013!!
Friday, September 13th, we welcome our guests to the 50th MSFFF Convention Center. The former Lowes home improvement center and the future home of the Jackson Laboratory. With over 100 thousand square feet, the convention center features an auditorium setting for 2000 guests, banquet seating for 850, and a vender/trade show with 180 available spaces right in the middle! Friday evening we present Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from the syndicated show, ‘Who’s Line is it anyway’. An evening of improv comedy that is sure to keep everyone laughing until their sides hurt.
Saturday, September 14th, starts off with possibly the largest parade ever seen in Maine. We expect hundreds of fire trucks old and new, horse drawn and self propelled, along with numerous civic floats, bands, and marching units. Many businesses along the two mile parade route are planning outdoor events to help entertain the spectators. Business plans are also being adjusted for the hundreds of potential patrons’ right outside their doors. Following the parade a viewing of many of the antique fire apparatus will take place at the 50th MSFFF Convention Center. A 9-11 and fallen firefighter memorial is expected to bring together a large crowd to pay their respects. A spectacular banquet catered by Big Cats Catering starts at 5:00pm followed by the biggest awards ceremony in convention history with over $16,000 in trophies to be given to the best of the best! To top of the evening, we have The Motor Booty Affair, along with a 40 piece orchestra to dance the night away.
Sunday, September 15th brings the firefighter muster. A field day for the firefighters, the muster consists of a dry hose and wet hose event where the teams compete connecting the hose and flowing water to knock down a target. A mystery event is thrown in which challenges the firefighters to think fast and overcome the obstacles. The last event is water polo where the firefighter’s battle with hose streams to push a ball on a cable, to the opposing side, in a reverse tug-o-war. Another awards ceremony follows the conclusion of the muster.
Official 50th MSFFF Convention memorabilia merchandise can be ordered with pre-registration as well as throughout the convention weekend.
