The City of Ellsworth is now seeking proposals from qualified, licensed Maine real estate brokers to provide services related to the marketing and sale of tax-acquired properties.
This Request for Proposals (RFP) reflects recent changes to Maine law that guide how municipalities must handle the sale of these properties. Under the updated law, cities are required to take a market-based approach, ensuring properties are sold at fair market value and that the process is transparent and equitable.
Tax-acquired properties are those that come into City ownership after property taxes remain unpaid for an extended period, following the legal foreclosure process. The City currently has approximately 25 properties, with additional properties acquired each year.
