Join Green Ellsworth and the City of Ellsworth on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, for a day celebrating Ellsworth’s new FREE composting program and Food Waste Prevention Week!
From 9:00 AM–2:00 PM at the Moore Community Center, 125 State Street, learn more about food waste prevention, composting, and the many new ways Ellsworth residents can keep organic material out of the waste stream.
Featured presenters include Mark King of the Maine DEP, Susanne Lee of the University of Maine, and Kate Tomkins of Chickadee Compost.
Then at 3:00 PM, join us at the Ellsworth Transfer Station, 11 Industrial Road, for a Ribbon Cutting & Ceremonial Compost Pitch celebrating the expansion of composting services in Ellsworth. Bring along some food scraps and help us officially kick things off!
Organic materials make up approximately 40% of personal and municipal waste streams and related costs. Ellsworth residents now have access to curbside, neighborhood, school, and FREE transfer station composting.
