The City of Ellsworth and the Ellsworth Fire Department are proud to recognize Jaxon Mansfield as the recipient of the Citizen Award of Merit, presented on April 20, 2026.
Jaxon was honored for his extraordinary composure and courageous actions during a life-threatening incident on the night of March 20, 2026.
While traveling in hazardous winter weather and moderate snowfall, Jaxon was involved in a serious motor vehicle rollover. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a swamp, unstable and suspended above rising water.
After safely extricating himself from the vehicle, Jaxon was faced with an urgent and dangerous situation involving an injured family member. Demonstrating remarkable maturity and presence of mind, he immediately called 911, providing dispatchers with precise location details and critical information needed for first responders to safely navigate the challenging road conditions.
His calm and clear communication played a vital role in the rapid response and successful rescue of his mother.
Jaxon’s actions that night reflect courage, quick thinking, and a deep sense of responsibility; all qualities that embody the very best of our community.
Captain Freedman from the EFD presented the award, recognizing Jaxon’s actions as an inspiring example of civic duty and heroism. The City of Ellsworth is honored to recognize Jaxon Mansfield for his bravery and the difference he made in a moment when it mattered most.
