City of Ellsworth Partners with Citylogix to Launch Advanced Roadway and Sidewalk Assessment
Ellsworth, Maine – The City of Ellsworth is partnering with Citylogix, formerly known as StreetScan, a Massachusetts based company specializing in advanced roadway assessment, to evaluate local street conditions beginning this week.
Citylogix employs state-of-the-art, vehicle mounted sensing technology to assess roadways in normal traffic flow. Using LiDAR and 360-degree imaging, the system detects pavement defects such as cracking, bumps, and potholes. The data collected will help the City identify and prioritize road repairs, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that residents benefit from safer, longer-lasting streets.
“This investment in data-driven technology allows us to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to street maintenance,” said Sara Devlin, Deputy City Manager. “By taking a systematic approach, we can stretch taxpayer dollars further and make smart decisions about future road improvements.”
The roadway assessment will take place throughout the week, weather permitting. Residents may notice a Citylogix vehicle traveling Ellsworth’s streets, equipped with cameras and sensors. The technology operates at normal traffic speeds and does not disrupt regular traffic flow.
In addition to roadway conditions, Citylogix has already completed an inventory of more than 10 miles of City owned sidewalks. This data, along with the roadway assessment results, will be incorporated into Ellsworth’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which is currently being developed. Integrating this new data with the City’s long-term financial and infrastructure planning will allow City leaders to better prioritize roadway investments, coordinate with other infrastructure needs, and ensure that road improvements align with community growth and future development goals.
Later this year, City staff plan to provide a detailed presentation on both the sidewalk and street data, giving residents and City leaders a clearer picture of infrastructure needs and priorities moving forward.
