  • When do I need a Permit?

    Many projects in the City of Ellsworth require a permit to ensure safety, compliance with local and state regulations, and the protection of our community and natural resources.

    Before starting any project, we strongly encourage you to check with the Code Enforcement Office. A quick conversation up front can help you avoid delays, additional costs, or potential fines.

    Permits are commonly required for the following types of work:

    What are the hours for the Code Office at City Hall?

    City Hall is open from 7 am to 6 pm Monday through Thursday, except on Holidays.

    If you plan to visit the Code Office, please consider calling to make an appointment.  207-667-4910

    We spend more than half of our time out of the office conducting inspections and providing consultation in the field. To avoid a wasted trip, please schedule a time to meet with us before coming in.

    Ellsworth City Hall is closed for the following holidays:

    • New Year’s Day (January 1)
    • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (third Monday in January)
    • Presidents’ Day (third Monday in February)
    • Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
    • Juneteenth (June 19)
    • Independence Day (July 4)
    • Labor Day (first Monday in September)
    • Indigenous Peoples’ Day (second Monday in October)
    • Veterans’ Day (November 11)
    • Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November)
    • Christmas (December 25)

     

    If a recognized holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed (City Hall will be closed) on the following Monday.

     

    If a recognized holiday falls on a Friday, the holiday will be observed (City Hall will be closed) on the preceding Thursday.
