Ellsworth, Maine — Beginning Tuesday, February 24, the Ellsworth Transfer Station, 11 Industrial Rd, Ellsworth, will once again accept clean glass jars and bottles for recycling.

Transfer Station Manager, Dave Soper, shared that the goal of bringing glass back into the recycling stream is simple: reduce landfill tonnage, lower disposal costs, and operate more efficiently.

Environmental and Operational Benefits

Recycling glass keeps heavy material out of the landfill, helping reduce tonnage fees and lowering strain on equipment. Glass will be crushed and used as inert fill, rather than taking up landfill space. “Glass is heavy,” Dave noted. “It adds up quickly. Diverting it from the landfill makes a real difference.” Ellsworth has accepted glass in the past, and the City is pleased to restore this option for residents and Transfer Station users.
