Beginning on Sunday April 25, 2021 directly following the Card Brook Clean-Up the Ellsworth Green Action Team, an active part of Green Ellsworth in collaboration with the City of Ellsworth will be hosting the fourth annual citywide Roadside Clean-up. This event is an opportunity to participate in the Roadside Clean-Up at your convenience and to help beautify city roads by removing unsightly litter, trash, and potentially dangerous discards. Organizers want to help increase City pride by encouraging residents, visitors, and businesses to invest in our community. The week-long event will run from Sunday, April 25th through Sunday, May 2nd. Subcommittee Chair, Mark Whiting said, “This is where we live and work. It’s important that things look nice and that we can feel proud of our city.”
Interested participants can pick up free yellow trash bags and sign-up for road segments at City Hall during regular business hours, beginning Monday April 19th. All participants should wear boots, work gloves, and bright clothing. Trash bags can be left on the road shoulder in safe, but visible locations. Please report the location and number of trash bags to Marcia Monk at 207-669-6619 for disposal by Ellsworth Public Works. Participants are encouraged to separate trash and redeemable bottles and cans into separate bags. Redeemable bottles and cans may be donated to the SPCA of Hancock County located at 141 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton.
Whiting also recommends that participants not fill the trash bags to their maximum capacity out of consideration for Ellsworth Public Works employees who need to handle them. Please remember to not pick up broken glass or other dangerous items.
