It’s a great day to plant something for the future, and yesterday, April 23, 2026, something pretty special took root in Ellsworth.
In celebration of Earth Day, and just ahead of Arbor Day, two new trees were planted along Main Street near the Union River Bridge, bringing a little more green to one of our most visible and well-traveled areas.
This effort came together thanks to the generosity and initiative of Northeast Paving, who provided the labor to plant the trees, along with support from City staff and members of the Arbor Commission who helped coordinate the project and bring it to life. Also, Northeast Paving has expressed interest in doing this each year on Earth Day!
It’s a beautiful act and one that carries lasting impact.
Trees offer shade, beauty, and environmental benefits, but they also help shape the feel of a place. They signal care. They create connection. And over time, they become part of the everyday experience of living, working, and visiting Ellsworth.
On Arbor Day, we’re reminded that planting a tree is really about planting for the future. This annual holiday is dedicated to planting, nurturing, and celebrating trees, encouraging communities to “plant for the future”.
Arbor Day sprouted from the mind of a zealous tree lover named Julius Sterling Morton. A popular Arbor Day tradition is to plant a tree in honor or memory of a loved one. Learn some interesting facts about this day, and learn about the power of trees, which support our well-being!
Thank you to Northeast Paving and everyone involved in making this happen—and for helping keep Ellsworth growing in all the right ways. Check out these great pics from the day!
