There was a full room at City Hall recently as the Cemetery Commission met to continue important work ahead of Memorial Day and beyond.

From coordinating with local veteran groups on flag placement, to preparing our cemeteries for the season, to working through the details of a new comprehensive ordinance, this group is doing the thoughtful, foundational work that helps ensure Ellsworth’s cemeteries are cared for now and for generations to come.

We were also glad to welcome members of the Ellsworth Historical Society, who joined the conversation and shared their work connecting our historic downtown cemetery to the broader story of our community. This effort reflects a shared commitment to stewardship, to history, and to one another.

A special thank you to the members of this newly formed Commission for their time and dedication, and to Councilor Nancy Smith, whose leadership helped bring renewed focus to this important work.

Ellsworth takes pride in this place—and we take care of it together.
