The City of Ellsworth will once again transform a portion of Franklin Street into the Franklin Street Parklet, creating a vibrant, shared public space in the heart of downtown.
The work to put the Parklet together will begin on Monday, May 11, 2026. City crews will begin placing plantings, seating, and other park amenities on Monday, May 11, 2026, and the Parklet will be “Open for Business” when set-up is completed that week.
To make way for the Parklet, this short connector street will be closed to vehicle traffic, and the few parking spaces will be unavailable for the season starting May 10.
While the temporary loss of parking may be an adjustment, the Parklet offers something meaningful in return: a welcoming outdoor space designed for community connection, local activity, and enjoyment throughout the warmer months.
“The Parklet is all about creating a space where people want to gather,” said Roddy Ehrlenbach, Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities for the City of Ellsworth. “Whether it’s listening to live music, enjoying lunch outside, or just taking a moment to sit and connect, this space brings a different kind of energy to downtown, and we’re excited to bring it back for another season.”
The Franklin Street Parklet will serve as:
- A venue for free live music on Thursdays as part of the City’s Summer Concert Series (you’re not going to want to miss the amazing lineup of musicians we have booked for the summer. Plan to be there on Thursday nights!)
- A place to sit, relax, and enjoy lunch outdoors
- A flexible space for local businesses and organizations to host events, in partnership with the City’s Parks and Recreation team
Located in the center of downtown, the Parklet continues to be a popular destination for both residents and visitors, contributing to Ellsworth’s energy and sense of place. The Parklet has been implemented successfully in previous years, becoming a familiar and well-used seasonal feature.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for parking alternatives and to take advantage of the many nearby public parking options.
