The City of Ellsworth will be closed on Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.
Because City Hall is regularly closed on Fridays, municipal offices will close on Thursday to recognize the federal holiday and will remain closed through Monday.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a national holiday and a time to reflect on freedom, equality, and our shared history.
