Ellsworth Fire Department Responds to RV Explosion on North Street
ELLSWORTH, ME — At approximately 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Ellsworth Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle explosion and fire involving a converted bus at 253 North Street.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found that a converted bus/RV parked adjacent to a residential home had sustained severe damage from an explosion. Ellsworth Police Department and Fire Department personnel quickly attended to one victim, secured the scene, extinguished minor debris fires, and isolated on-site hazards, including propane tanks.
The sole occupant of the vehicle was able to escape the bus prior to the arrival of first responders. The individual was treated on scene for severe burns and was transported by Northern Light Medical Transport to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. No further details are available at this time.
