We have an important update to share on Bridge Hill — road repairs are tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, August 24, 2026, with completion anticipated by Wednesday, August 26.

We know the continued traffic diversion has been frustrating, and we appreciate the community’s patience while the City has worked with MaineDOT and the contractor to determine what is needed to safely repair and reopen the road. The water main break caused water to move beneath the roadway, damaging the pavement and washing material out of portions of the gravel base below it. That means repairing the road involves more than simply paving over the damaged area. The damaged pavement first needs to be removed so crews can repair and properly compact the gravel base before the roadway is repaved.

As with any project involving damage below the road surface, that timeline could change depending on what crews find once the pavement is removed, as well as weather and field conditions.

The road will reopen as soon as paving is complete, the pavement has cooled, and the contractor determines the roadway is safe for traffic.

Until then, the traffic diversion remains in place. Please continue to follow the posted detour and allow additional travel time.

Thank You for Your Patience
We know this closure has affected daily commutes, businesses and residents throughout the area. Our crews are very aware of that impact and share the community’s desire to see Bridge Hill safely reopened. We also don’t want to promise a reopening date until the work is complete and the road is safe for traffic.

For now, August 24–26, 2026, is the anticipated repair window, and we will continue to keep the community updated if that schedule changes.

Please refer to the map above for the section of Bridge Hill currently affected by the closure.
