Recently, a few of us gathered in front of one of the two new welcome signs now greeting residents and visitors as they enter Ellsworth. The signs are a fitting reminder of the pride we take in our community and they provided the perfect backdrop for celebrating some exciting news.
Downtown Ellsworth is now officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This designation is the result of years of collaboration among Heart of Ellsworth, the City of Ellsworth, preservation advocates, local historians, business owners, sponsors, volunteers, and community members who believe in preserving the character and history that make our downtown unique. The designation recognizes the historic significance of downtown Ellsworth while creating new opportunities for preservation, investment, and economic vitality in the years ahead.
We are grateful to everyone who helped bring this effort to completion and proud to celebrate this important milestone together.
After all, a community that values its history is a community investing in its future.
