The City of Ellsworth has been awarded a $2,979.92 Ed MacDonald Safety Grant from the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) Workers’ Compensation Fund to purchase new traffic control and high-visibility safety equipment for City employees.

The grant will help provide equipment that improves visibility and safety for employees working on roadways and other public works projects, helping reduce the risk of workplace injuries while they serve our community.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grant program assists municipalities across Maine in purchasing safety equipment and services that prevent workplace injuries, improve employee safety, and reduce costs associated with workplace accidents. Since 1999, the Maine Municipal Association has awarded more than $7.1 million through nearly 4,700 safety grants, helping communities create safer workplaces for their employees.

“Every day, City employees work outdoors in all kinds of conditions to maintain our roads, utilities, parks, and other essential services,” said City Manager Charlie Pearce. “This grant allows us to invest in equipment that helps keep them safe while they care for our community.”

The City appreciates the Maine Municipal Association’s continued commitment to supporting workplace safety and helping municipalities provide the safest possible working environment for their employees.
