The City of Ellsworth is pleased to announce the signing of new lease agreements for the Moore Community Center on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Moore Community Center, 125 State St, Ellsworth. This marks an exciting milestone for the community and for three cornerstone organizations that call the building home: the Downeast Family YMCA, Friends in Action, and the Ellsworth Community Music Institute.

City Manager, Charlie Pearce, Parks and Recreation Director, Roddy Ehrlenbach, and the leaders of these three organizations were present for the official signing. “For the past eleven years the Moore Community Center has been a place where Ellsworth connects – where our children learn, our seniors gather, and our community comes together in ways that reflect the very best of who we are,” says Pearce. “This agreement ensures that we can keep providing those services responsibly and sustainably, at a fair price point for the organizations that make this building so vibrant, in a fiscally responsible way for the city, and in a way that allows the next decade of the Moore Community Center to grow and evolve alongside the city it serves.”

Each organization’s lease reflects the amount of space they use within the building, ensuring a fair and sustainable agreement. The rental payments will go directly to the City of Ellsworth to help offset the costs of maintaining this important community facility. The Downeast Family YMCA continues to be the primary hub for childcare, after-school programs, and summer day camps in the area. Friends in Action provides vital programs and services to support Ellsworth’s seniors, and The Ellsworth Community Music Institute enriches the region’s cultural life through free community concerts and educational opportunities.

“We are thrilled to move forward getting these leases updated and signed,” said Ehrlenbach. “The Moore Community Center is more than just a building, it’s a center for connection, learning, and community.”

In addition to these long-term tenants, the City of Ellsworth reminds the public that rental space is still available within the Moore Community Center.

Rooms can be reserved for short-term use, and both the gymnasium and auditorium are available for community events and programs. The City encourages local organizations, clubs, and groups to reach out about hosting events, activities, or meetings in this central community space.
