Sometimes, making the world a better place starts with a few pieces of lumber, a handful of tools, and a group of young people determined to make a difference. That’s exactly what Girl Scout Troop 1282 of Ellsworth has done!
As part of their Bronze Award project, the Girl Scouts built three picnic tables for Harbor Park, creating a welcoming place for residents and visitors to gather, relax, and enjoy one of Ellsworth’s beautiful public spaces. The tables were delivered to Harbor Park on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and are a wonderful addition to the park. One of the three tables is wheelchair accessible, helping make this new gathering space more inclusive for everyone.
A Community Effort Worth Celebrating
This project was made possible through the generosity of Viking Lumber, which donated the lumber, and the guidance and support of the troop’s leader and mentor, who helped the girls bring their vision to life. From building the tables to delivering them to the park, these young ladies have demonstrated what community service is all about: recognizing an opportunity to help others and taking action to make it happen.
Each table features a plaque with a simple but powerful message:
“We leave the world a better place.”
