Street signs do an important job. They help residents, visitors, delivery drivers and emergency responders find their way around Ellsworth. But over time, signs can fade, become damaged or simply become difficult to read.

The City of Ellsworth would like to remind residents living on private roads that the cost of maintaining and replacing their road signs is the responsibility of the property owners or road association.

The good news? Our Public Works team can help with the replacement!

When City Public Works crews notice a private road sign that is no longer legible, they notify the City’s Assessing Department, which coordinates a notice to the property owners requesting payment for a replacement.

The replacement fee is $150 per sign, which allows the Public Works Department to order the new sign and have City crews install it.

Don’t Wait Until Your Sign Is Unreadable

We encourage residents and road associations to take a look at their street signs. If a sign has become faded, difficult to read or damaged, please make arrangements with the City to have it replaced.
