Just in time for Memorial Day weekend and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration, new American flags are being installed throughout Ellsworth this week thanks to a generous partnership and a shared sense of community pride.
Back in November 2025, the City purchased 24 new American flag kits through the Cole Land Transportation Museum’s American Flag Program.
In an incredible gesture of support, the program matched the City’s purchase with an additional 24 flag kits at no cost, representing a total contribution of $1,448. The new flags arrived last week and are now being installed this week, May 20, 2026, by the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, with support from the Highway Department, replacing older worn flags and helping Ellsworth look its very best ahead of Memorial Day weekend. The fresh flags will also help the community prepare for the nation’s upcoming Semiquincentennial — America’s 250th birthday celebration.
The City extends a sincere thank you to everyone involved in helping bring this effort together and to the crews now hard at work installing the flags across the community.
