Information prior to Voting Day
Voters may cast an absentee ballot instead of voting in person. To minimize interaction with others during this public health pandemic (COVID-19), some voters may prefer voting by absentee ballot.
Absentee ballots may be requested in writing, by phone, online, or in person up to and including Friday, October 30, 2020 at 5:00 PM, without specifying a reason. Please note that we are not able to accept absentee ballot requests by email. However, if you are asking to receive your ballot by mail, please request it early enough to allow for postal mail delivery time – both to receive it and return it (2-5 days each way).
Returning ballots through the mail does require postage (up to 2 stamps). There will also be a drop box for returning ballots located in the Church Street entrance lobby of Ellsworth City Hall for ballots being cast by Ellsworth residents or Fletcher’s Landing Township voters (postage is not necessary if using this specific drop box). By calling 207-669-6604 you may also make arrangements to personally deliver your ballot to a member of the City Clerk Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays.
- You can request an absentee ballot by calling your Municipal Clerk’s office at 669-6604.
- You can request an absentee ballot online or by mail from the Secretary of State’s website: https://www1.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/AbsenteeBallot/online-form.pl
- Absentee ballot requests are currently being accepted.
Printed ballots will be available starting October 2, and we will issue your ballot as soon as possible after that date. Please do not request additional ballots based on not receiving one prior to the first week of October. Please feel free to call to verify we have received your request. Requesting an absentee ballot through the electronic site, telephone, or mailing in a request all arrive in the City Clerk’s Office and we will be tracking those requests; submitting a second request for a ballot is not necessary. Please call 207-669-6604 if you are concerned with whether we received your request for a ballot.
- Ballots must be returned to the municipal clerk no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day.
