The Ellsworth Fire Department is hitting the streets this week (January 26, 2026) with one goal: ensuring our water sources are ready if an emergency strikes.

Deep snow and ice can bury hydrants, making them nearly impossible to find and access during a fire. We’re out there doing the heavy lifting now so that we don’t lose critical time later.

⚠️ Help Us Stay Safe While We Work

While our teams are focused on the shovels, we need you to focus on the road.

Please help us get home to our families by following these safety steps:
• Watch for Flashing Lights: If you see our trucks, slow down immediately.
• Give Us Space: Snowbanks make the roads narrow. Please yield the right-of-way and give our firefighters a wide berth while they are working on foot near the pavement.
• Expect the Unexpected: Between the noise of the machinery and the hoods/gear we wear, we might not hear your vehicle approaching. Stay alert for us!

We take care of the hydrants; please take care of us by driving with extra caution.

Stay safe, Ellsworth! And here’s a quick reminder if you have a hydrant near your home …
