The City of Ellsworth is pleased to announce the official timeline and requirements for individuals interested in running for municipal office in the upcoming general election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Prospective candidates for City Council, Ellsworth Library Trustee, and Ellsworth School Board are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the nomination process, which requires candidates to gather signatures from registered voters.

Key Information for Prospective Candidates:

  • Nomination Papers Available: Nomination papers will be available at the City Clerk’s office starting Friday, July 25, 2025. These petitions are the official documents required for candidates to secure their place on the ballot.
  • Signature Requirement: Each candidate must obtain signatures from no less than 50 registered voters on their nomination petition.
  • Open Seats:
    • City Council: 3 open seats, each for a 3-year term.
    • Ellsworth Library Trustee: 1 open seat, for a 3-year term.
    • Ellsworth School Board: 2 open seats, each for a 3-year term.
  • Nomination Paper/Petition Deadline: Completed nomination papers and petitions must be returned to the City Clerk’s office by Friday, September 5, 2025, at 12:30 PM.
