Ellsworth water customers recently received a notice and detailed information sheet from the Maine Drinking Water Program and the City of Ellsworth, outlining recent test results for disinfection by-products (DBPs) in the treated drinking water supply. Although this is not an emergency and no immediate action is required from you, we believe it is important for you to be informed about what occurred and the steps we are taking to resolve the situation.

This notice is to inform customers located in the High Street Area, near Myrick Street (map), that our water system currently does not meet the drinking water standard for Total Trihalomethanes (THMs). This exceedance does not extend to the whole city water supply.

THMs are disinfection by-products that can form in water systems treated with chlorine. The city has issued similar notifications in the past regarding THM levels exceeding the standard. While this is not an emergency, and the water is safe to drink, we want you to be fully informed about what has happened. Visit our dedicated webpage Ellsworth’s Water Future for more information on what you can do, and the steps we are taking to resolve the issue.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the Water Department. Our staff is available to assist you and explain what this means for you.
