15032286_1142369019173846_3928459685456302650_nTREE LIGHTING at S.K. Whiting Park! – PRESS RELEASE – The City of Ellsworth plans to kick off the holiday season with a Christmas Tree Lighting in S. K. Whiting Park on Friday, November 25th at 4:30 pm. An 18 foot tree will be placed in the park with 2400 lights to brighten the corner of High Street and Main Street, which are the cities two distinct shopping districts. “November 25th, also known as Black Friday, the official start of the holiday shopping season, seemed to be the perfect date for the event” stated Micki Sumpter, City Economic Development Director, “City Councilors wanted a community event to tie into all the other holiday happenings city wide.”
The Event will include music, as well as a local community group selling cocoa. The event coincides with the opening of the Downtown Holiday Market place, nine pop up shops, in the former Grasshopper location, as well as Small Business Saturday which takes place the following day. The annual Downtown Christmas parade will take place the next weekend on Saturday, December 3rd at 11am along with the official arrival of Santa to Ellsworth. “We hope that many families who are enjoying the long Thanksgiving weekend will come into town for the tree lighting” stated Gretchen Wilson Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a great way to celebrate as well as show off what our local businesses have to offer”. Atlantic Landscaping will be providing the large tree to be placed in the park.
