The City of Ellsworth has received a request for a recount of the municipal City Council election. After consulting with the City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk overseeing elections, and legal counsel, and given the closeness of the election results, the City intends to move swiftly to operationalize a recount of the election to be scheduled for Friday, November 14 with Saturday, November 15 as an extension of the recount timeline, if needed. The hand recount will be held in City Council Chambers and will commence at 9 am and open to the public at 8 am to view setup.

The election certification/organizational meeting to seat the new Council will be postponed from Monday, November 10 to Monday, November 17 at 4 pm prior to the monthly City Council meeting which will begin at 6 pm.

The City will distribute additional information regarding procedural policies governing the recount process soon.

Under the City Charter and Maine state law, the current City Council incumbents continue to serve until the new Council is officially seated, should any emergency actions be necessary.
