ELLSWORTH, Maine (May 1, 2026) – The City of Ellsworth is inviting community members to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand at a spring volunteer workday at the City’s community tree nursery.

The Nursery Spring Clean-Up will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10 am to 12 noon at the Jordan Homestead Preserve on Bayside Road. Led by the Ellsworth Arbor Commission, the event offers residents a chance to support the care and growth of young trees that will one day help shape the City’s landscape.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of hands-on tasks, including repairing winter frost damage, securing tree stakes, and preparing the nursery for the growing season ahead. No experience is needed, just a willingness to help and spend a couple of hours outdoors.

“This is a great opportunity for people to connect with the work that goes into growing and maintaining our community’s tree canopy,” said Michael Otzwirk, Maine Conservation Corps Community Tree Steward. “These trees will eventually be planted throughout Ellsworth, and this early care makes a lasting difference.”

All necessary tools will be provided, though volunteers are welcome to bring their favorite shovel. Participants are encouraged to wear work boots, gloves, and weather-appropriate clothing, and to bring water. Events like this reflect Ellsworth’s ongoing commitment to stewardship, sustainability, and community connection — and offer a simple way for residents to get involved and make a visible impact.

Community members interested in participating are asked to RSVP by emailing treesteward@ellsworthmaine.gov  to receive updates, including any weather-related changes.
