The Maine Climate Council (MCC) will host a public workshop at the Ellsworth Public Library to hear from area residents about what is important to them and their community as the State takes action to prepare to update the Maine Climate Action Plan later this year. “Maine Wont’ Wait” is the state’s four-year climate action plan aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience against climate impacts.
The City of Ellsworth has aligned local efforts to help meet the goals of the Maine Climate Action Plan. As a member of the State’s Community Resiliency Partnership, the City was awarded funding to participate in the planning phase of the Village Partnership Initiative with the Maine Department of Transportation. The goals of the plan are to address climate related impacts by reducing miles traveled by automotive vehicles, minimizing wear on roadways, and reducing accidents. Additionally, the City is evaluating vulnerabilities to the City’s stormwater infrastructure and its ability to handle the capacity of rain events and snowmelt. As a riverfront community susceptible to flooding, Ellsworth experiences drainage challenges, as witnessed during recent winter storm events.
If interested in sharing your concerns or experiences as a resident of Ellsworth, please feel free to attend the Climate Council workshop. Click here to register for the event.
