The Recreation Commission, in partnership with City staff, is actively working to upgrade playground features across Ellsworth to ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone. Furthermore, we invite the community to Play-it-Forward Day at Knowlton Park on Saturday, May 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. to learn more about the playground projects and how to get involved in supporting the park and Recreation Commission.

Current and Upcoming Improvements:

Splash Pad Delayed Opening

The splash pad will remain closed through May and June for resurfacing and is expected to reopen in early July. The new surface requires dry conditions for proper application and time to cure. To ensure a safe and long-lasting upgrade, we’ve made the decision to delay reopening until conditions allow for a successful repair. We appreciate everyone’s patience (especially the children’s) and understanding as we complete this important improvement.

The colors shown below represent the new paint that will be featured on the splash pad once it reopens:

Swing Set Updates
Several swing seats and components have been replaced. We’ve also added two adaptive chair swings to support inclusive play, one for ages 0–5, and another for ages 5–12.

Slide Repair Scheduled
A damaged slide will be repaired in August by a specialized vendor to fix the hole in the surface.

New Step Stone Logs Coming Soon
New step stone logs will be installed in June by our Public Works team.

Tire Swing Enhancements
New hardware, including a boot and bearings, have been installed on the tire swings making it smoother and eliminating a potential safety hazard.

Suspension Bridge Repaired
The playground’s suspension bridge has been repaired and is now open for play.
