With temperatures expected to drop to –10°F and below, we want to share a few important reminders to help keep everyone safe during this extreme cold:
1️⃣ Limit time outdoors
When possible, stay inside. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in minutes at these temperatures. And keep your pets inside as much as possible, too.
2️⃣ Dress in layers
Wear warm, loose-fitting layers, including a hat, gloves or mittens, and insulated footwear. Cover exposed skin as much as possible.
3️⃣ Check on neighbors and loved ones
Older adults, young children, and those without reliable heat are especially vulnerable. A quick check-in can make a big difference.
4️⃣ Use heating sources safely
Keep space heaters away from flammable materials and never use grills, generators, or propane heaters indoors. Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
5️⃣ Prepare your vehicle and home
If you must travel, keep an emergency kit in your car. At home, let faucets drip slightly to prevent frozen pipes and know how to shut off your water if needed.

Please take care, stay warm, and look out for one another. 💙
