Ellsworth, Maine (March 4, 2026) The City of Ellsworth is inviting residents, volunteers, and community partners to take part in two annual spring clean-up efforts aimed at improving local roadsides and restoring Card Brook, the City’s urban stream.
Annual Citywide Roadside Clean-Up
April 18–25, 2026
Beginning Saturday, April 18, the City of Ellsworth will host the Citywide Roadside Clean-Up. This week-long volunteer effort runs through Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Participants may sign up for road segments and pick up free yellow trash bags at Ellsworth City Hall during regular business hours (Monday through Thursday, 7 am – 6 pm) beginning Monday, April 13. Clean up officially starts on Saturday, April 18 and bags will be picked up starting Saturday, April 18.
Volunteers are asked to wear boots, work gloves, and bright or reflective clothing. Filled trash bags should be placed on the roadside in safe, visible locations. Participants must report the number and location of bags to the City Clerk’s Office at 207-669-6603 so they can be collected by Ellsworth Public Works.
To assist Public Works crews, volunteers are encouraged not to overfill bags and to avoid collecting broken glass or hazardous materials. Participants are also encouraged to separate redeemable bottles and cans, which may be donated to the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton.

Annual Card Brook Clean-Up
Saturday, May 9, 2026 | 9 am – 12 noon
On Saturday, May 9, the Ellsworth community will come together to clean Card Brook during the annual Card Brook Clean-Up. The event is hosted by the City of Ellsworth in collaboration with Frenchman Bay Conservancy and the Ellsworth Moose Lodge.
Volunteers will meet at 9 am in the parking lot at Bangor Pipe & Supply Inc., 55 Foster Street to check in, enter a raffle drawing, and receive instructions. Clean-up activities will continue until 12 noon, followed by a cookout next door at the Ellsworth Moose Lodge, 47 Foster Street.
Participants should wear sturdy footwear suitable for wet and muddy conditions. Trash bags, work gloves, hand sanitizer, snacks, and bottled water will be provided. Volunteers will also have the chance to win gift cards to local businesses through a raffle held during the cookout. The first 50 volunteers at check in the day of will receive a free Keep Card Brook Clean T-shirt designed by a local student artist.
In the event of inclement weather, the clean-up will be rescheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
