The City of Ellsworth Highway and Water Departments will be completing overnight utility and roadway work on High Street (Route 1) near Pizza Hut beginning Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10 p.m. (Yes…10 p.m.!)

While most of Ellsworth is sleeping, City crews will be hard at work. By scheduling this project overnight, they’re helping reduce traffic impacts for residents, visitors, commuters, and local businesses during one of the busiest times of year.

Work is expected to continue through the night and be completed by approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 11.

During the work:

  • Traffic traveling toward Bar Harbor will be reduced to one travel lane in the area.
  • Work will take place in the center turn lane and the inside travel lane.
  • Both travel lanes heading toward Bangor will remain open.

Motorists should expect minor delays, slow down when approaching the work zone, and follow all traffic control devices and crew directions.

Working through the night isn’t always easy, but it’s one way our dedicated Highway and Water crews help minimize disruptions while keeping Ellsworth’s infrastructure safe and reliable. Thank you to these teams for their commitment to serving our community … even after the sun goes down.

Work will take place in the area of the yellow highlighted area in the image below.
