The City of Ellsworth Water Department, in partnership with the Ellsworth Fire Department, will begin its routine hydrant flushing program on Monday, September 28, 2026, with work taking place on Bucksport and Surry Roads.
Hydrant flushing is a routine maintenance process completed twice each year (in the spring and fall) to help keep our water system running smoothly. Flushing helps remove naturally occurring sediment from water mains, improves water quality, and ensures hydrants are operating properly for fire protection.
The work will start September 28,2026 and take 3 – 4 weeks to complete.
What residents can expect
During flushing, residents in the area may notice:
- Temporary low water pressure or reduced water flow
- Discolored or yellowish water
- Cloudy or turbid water
These conditions are expected, temporary, and do not pose a health concern. If you notice discolored water after flushing is complete, simply run your cold water tap until the water becomes clear.
