City of Ellsworth Announces Inaugural Recipient of the Mote Award: Going the Extra Mile

Ellsworth, Maine – 9/15/25 – The City of Ellsworth is proud to announce that Tina Vanadestine has been named the first recipient of the Mote Award: Going the Extra Mile, an honor established to recognize individuals whose dedication and perseverance reflect the legacy of longtime public servant Tammy Mote.

The Mote Award was created to celebrate those who consistently go above and beyond, ensuring essential operations run smoothly, demonstrating resilience and collaboration, and making meaningful contributions behind the scenes. The award honors the example of Tammy Mote, who began her career with the City on May 8, 2000, as Deputy Treasurer/Tax Collector and went on to serve as Finance Director, Deputy City Manager, and later as a City Councilor. Over her nearly 25 years of service, Tammy has earned a reputation for her technical expertise, steady leadership, and above all, her compassion and warmth.

Tina Vanadestine embodies the same values that defined Tammy’s career. She is known for her huge heart and unwavering commitment to serving disadvantaged residents of Ellsworth. A colleague and community member who leads with humility, Tina never seeks recognition for her work but is always the first to lend a hand. She cares deeply about her coworkers, brings laughter and positivity into the workplace, and approaches challenges with determination and compassion.

“Tina represents exactly what this award is all about,” said City Manager Charlie Pearce. “Her selflessness, commitment to service, and ability to lift up those around her have made a lasting impact on Ellsworth.”

“It is fitting that Tina is the first to receive this award,” added Council Chair Patrick Lyons. “Her humility, kindness, and dedication inspire others, and she represents the best of what public service can be.”
