This spring, Ellsworth is proudly displaying a new kind of community artwork, one that brings together creativity, environmental awareness, and local pride.
Art students from Ellsworth Elementary, Middle and High Schools recently designed and painted a series of Earth Day flags, each one uniquely expressing themes of sustainability, conservation, and care for our planet. From bold messages to colorful interpretations of the natural world, the flags reflect both the talent of our students and their connection to the community around them.
The project was made possible through collaboration with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, which provided the materials and support to bring the students’ designs to life.
This week, Kevin and Caleb from the City’s Ground Maintenance team began installing the flags throughout downtown Ellsworth. Their work ensures these student creations are not only seen but celebrated by residents and visitors alike.
The flags will remain on display through May 1, 2026, at which point they will be replaced with American flags.
Projects like this are a reminder of what makes Ellsworth special: a community where creativity is encouraged, partnerships are strong, and even the smallest ideas can be lifted (with a nice breeze …) into something the whole city can enjoy.
