We want to share an important update with our residents.
The price of City trash bag stickers will increase by $1 per bag, from $3 to $4 starting Monday, March 2, 2026.
Any $3 stickers sold prior to March 2 will still be honored.
Also, the Scale price will increase to $160 per ton (with a 100-pound minimum charge) as of March 2, 2026. This increase will bring the scale price in line with the sticker price.
These changes are necessary to help cover significant increases in disposal and processing costs, and ongoing increases in our contract with Casella.
Adjusting pricing helps reduce the need for Ellsworth taxpayers to subsidize disposal costs.
Trash sticker and scale pricing have not increased in more than 10 years, despite rising costs. This modest adjustment also brings Ellsworth more in line with surrounding communities, helping discourage out-of-town dumping and keeping costs focused on serving Ellsworth residents.
